Water interruptions

Posted by peytonvsmith on April 25, 2017

Hi everyone,

If you are planning on visiting soon please be aware we will be treating our water system and will experience a loss of water May 2nd- May 5th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but it is crucial to maintaining a quality water supply. Water will not be available, you can still camp but bring your own water. With any questions, please contact us at the store.

Thanks and have a great day!

Summer is coming

Posted by peytonvsmith on April 6, 2017

Hi everyone, with the warmer weather quickly approaching I just wanted to send out a couple of reminders. We’ve already seen 97 degrees here at the store so we expect this summer to be a hot one. The activities we allow here (such as rock hounding) become limited once the heat hits so please call the store to inquire on what is allowed before you come out. We also see many people headed towards Black Gap WMA who inquire about a permit. Black Gap is use by permit only and they do not sell the permits on the area, nor do we. You can acquire a permit anywhere you buy a hunting and fishing license.

With any questions please just give us a call or send us an email. All contact info is listed on the left of the screen.

Thanks and have a great day!

Spring Break is almost here

Posted by peytonvsmith on March 3, 2017

With spring break getting closer, we are getting a lot of phone calls, hopefully this can answer some of your questions. If you can’t find an answer here please go ahead and give us a call.

We do not take reservations, this means that we are first come, first serve.

Yes, you may use a generator but only in designated sites.

We are about 8 miles from the main entrance of the park.

We do not sell diesel, we only have regular unleaded.

We do not have a propane fill up for RVs.

Weather permitting, you may build a fire in a designated fire ring.

We are not located in Alpine, the last town is Marathon before you get here.

We do not allow drones.

I’ll add to this as more questions come up. Have a great weekend!

Spring Break

Posted by peytonvsmith on February 17, 2017

Hi there everyone,

With spring break quickly approaching I just wanted to send out a few little reminders for those of you who plan to come visit us.

~We do not accept any reservations for this time period but we will do our absolute best to accommodate everyone.

~The store tends to get backed up with all the people, if you use cash rather than a card things go much more quickly in the store since we aren’t having to wait on the machine.

~No drones are allowed to be flown on the property.

~As of right now, our mornings and evenings have been quite cold with pretty pleasant to hot temperatures through the day.

With any questions please just give us a call. Have a great day!

2015 Started Off Cold

Posted by Chris Jefferies on January 27, 2015

  • We survived this year’s ice storm with 5 days w/o electricity but we’re still here and open for business.
  • The University of Houston will be returning with a geology class of 250 students for spring break from the14th through the 20th of March.
  • We’ve had 3 inches of rain since Thanksgiving with a full inch in January, which will make this year’s spring flower bloom awesome.
  • The National Park camp grounds were full for New Year’s and we got the overflow and the Park is expected to be full for Spring Break this year also.
  • People keep coming and going as usual.  Things are still running well…

Call us at 432-376-2244 for the latest…

Stillwells will close for the 2013 summer, beginning May 1, 2013.  We will re-open on October 1, 2013.  Those of you who visit us in the late fall and/or winter should plan to “come on down” as usual for 2014.  Make plans for a month or two, a few weeks, or even a few days, as you enjoy the beautiful Big Bend area.
