Hi everybody

Posted by peytonvsmith on November 10, 2018

We are currently doing quite a bit of road work but our tent sites and rock hounding area will be open from tomorrow (11/11) on. However, please be aware there will be machinery on the road doing work and exercise appropriate caution.

The Ranch will be closed to all rockhounding from December 1st-16th. We will be able to accommodate tent campers but not out on the ranch. Any tent camping during this time will be done close to the store.

Please call with any questions and have a fantastic weekend!

Road conditions

Posted by peytonvsmith on September 22, 2018

Hi everyone!

Due to recent rain the ranch roads are in very rough shape. We do not recommend traveling the roads to our primitive camping sites but, if you choose to do so it is at your own risk and please exercise extreme caution as there are holes in the road. We can accommodate tent campers closer to the store.

This also applies to rock hunting, there is currently no crossing the creek and we do not have an estimate when this will change.

Heads up!

Posted by peytonvsmith on September 8, 2018

We’ve been getting quite a bit of much needed rain in the area. Everything is muddy and/or flooded. FM 2627 sees quite a bit of flooding when we see heavy rain and there will be rocks in the road. If you have any questions, just call us at the store.

Hi everyone,

Now that summer is in full swing I just wanted to remind everyone that hours for rock hunting become very limited due to the heat and please call ahead of time. If you choose to just show up, you risk not being able to rock hunt and we would hate for anyone to be disappointed. The museum is still open for visitors and we are still open for camping (tents and RV sites) for anyone who can stand the heat.

If you have any questions please give us a call at the store or send us an email!

Month of March

Posted by peytonvsmith on December 16, 2017

Hi everyone,

We’ve been getting quite a few calls here at the store in regards to making reservations in March. I just wanted to remind everyone that we do not take reservations in March until after March 20th. We are first come, first serve before then. That being said, we have never turned anyone away and we will always do our best to accommodate everyone. We have plenty of space for pitching tents and, in the event we run out of RV spaces with hook-ups, we do allow dry camping. March is the busiest time of the year for Big Bend National Park and surrounding areas, so please consider that when preparing for your travels.

With any questions, please comment here, send us an email or give us a call at the store.

Have a good weekend!

Rockhounding Closed

Posted by peytonvsmith on November 27, 2017

Our rockhounding and primitive camping area is closed for the next two weeks. There is no rockhounding at all on the property during this time. If you are looking to tent camp, we will still be able to accommodate you, just in a different space than normal.

Please call the store if you have any questions.

Thanks and have a great week!

Hi everybody,

We are getting a lot phones calls about the upcoming holiday so I thought I would answer a few common questions here.

Tent camping sites are first come, first serve. We do not accept reservations as they aren’t needed. We have never turned anyone anyway and we aren’t going to start now. In the event all of the designated tent camping sites fill up, we will still find a place for you to pitch a tent.

If you are a tent camper arriving after hours, there is a sign with maps out front of the store telling you what to do. If you are needing an RV site and plan to arrive after hours, please give us a call so that we can let you know where to set up. If you pull in and pick your own site, you will run the risk of being asked to move sites.

Small campfires are permitted as long as they are in a designated fire ring. Currently, we do not have wood available to sell at the store. We will have limited wood available for Thanksgiving with a 2 bundle max per campsite per day.

R.V. site availability is getting scarce on 50 amp sites. If you choose to just show up, we may only have 30 amp sites available. We have plenty of 30 amp water and electric only sites available and do not expect to fill them all.

Our rockhounding and tent camping area will be closing the Sunday after Thanksgiving for hunting season. If you are a tent camper who intends to stay past Sunday, we can still accommodate you just in a different area.

With any questions, just comment here or give us a call.
